Passing the Torch: Growing the Next Generation of Caring Adults

In January, RiseUp Red Wing high school students who are peer mentors and members of our Community Youth Council attended the National Mentoring Summit in Washington, DC. The summit was an opportunity for mentors from across the nation to learn, form new connections, and build their skills as they work toward a common goal of helping youth unleash their potential.

Olivia, a high school participant from RiseUp Red Wing, offered her reflections on the event:

“These people genuinely love what they do and pump consistent labor into understanding the lives of others. This passion that people had was very contagious for me, and I caught myself taking more notes than I had anticipated,” they said. “When I look back at all the amazing opportunities RiseUp Red Wing has provided me thus far, I gawk like a kid in a candy store. Being able to take on leadership, participate in our community, and make meaningful connections with Red Wing’s youth has sculpted me into a happier, better person.”

Olivia’s experience as a mentee is paving the way for her future. Sarah, the Executive Director of Mentor Minnesota, met Olivia at the Summit and had this to say:

"I sat next to Olivia for a neurodiversity session and kept forgetting she's a teenager. I hope she'll be our president someday."

The mentees at RiseUp Red Wing are the next generation of youth who will grow to become the caring adults in our community. Want to learn more about the mentorship experience? Visit our website!
